Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday April 14th!

Looking forward to meeting with you all and discussing the progress your child is making. I am very proud of them and how hard they are working! Also would love to show you all the technology we are using to reach and teach your child. They love the whiteboard/mimio and Ipad we use each day. Some of them come in asking for our Morning Meeting time and I would enjoy showing you some of the things we do each day.

The students are learning and witnessing the lifecycle of the butterfly. We have caterpillars in the classroom and are hoping to release butterflies in May, once the weather starts to warm up. Hope you have enjoyed your Spring Break and I know the students will have lots to tell me once they get back to class.

School wide store is up and Running!

Our Lancer Store is up and running! The students in Room 11 are enjoying being the shop keepers of this very special Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) tool. All of the students here at Bovenschen can come down and purchase items from the store on Thursdays and Fridays. There has been a lot of excitement for the kids to actually be earning tickets and getting rewarded for all their hard work. Way to go Lancers!!

New Staff Changes in Room 11

New Staff Changes in Room 11

I am sure by now your child has told you about the new staff in Room 11! We are excited to have Ms. Nan Russo and Ms. Meg Pelc join our team. Both of these ladies have worked SXI here in the building and they decided to join our new classroom. Here is a picture of the three of us from Halloween!

About Me

Hello and welcome to Room 11! My name is Helen Horn and I have been a teacher here at Keith Bovenschen for almost 8 years. I taught in the Autistic Program for several years before being hired. Received my Teaching certificate from Saginaw Valley State University and have gone on to receive my Masters in Special Education. I have two children of my own, so I understand the demands of being a parent. Have had experience teaching children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Moderate to Severe Cognitive abilities, and also students with multiple physical disabilities.

School will be starting on Wednesday September 9th!

We are very excited for school to be starting and have lots of fun things planned! Our classroom this year will host the Lancer School-wide Store. This will help the students with mobility, Math, transition skills, communication, and social skills. Our classroom is located in Room 11 by the motor room and has easy access to the courtyard and playground. I am very excited to be here in this section of the building and I know your students will learn and grow here!
